What to expect
Book the appointment
Tell us your pet’s age and whether they’ve been vaccinated before. If they have, bring their vaccination card.
A check-over first
The vet checks your pet is well enough to be vaccinated, then gives the vaccine. It only takes a moment.
Next one due
We’ll tell you when the next vaccine or booster is due, so your pet stays protected.
Aftercare
- Your pet may be a little quiet or sleepy for a day or so. This is normal.
- A small, soft lump can appear where the injection was given. Call us if it’s still there after a few weeks or is getting bigger.
- Some dogs sneeze or have a mild cough for a few days after the kennel cough vaccine.
- Keep your puppy away from unvaccinated dogs and public places until we tell you they’re protected.
- Contact us straight away if your pet has facial swelling, vomiting or difficulty breathing after a vaccine. Out of hours, call Vets Now (Essex) on 01206 842224 or Mead Vets Centre (Kent) on 01322 223311.

Questions
How much are puppy vaccinations?
DHPPi and Lepto 4 is £39, and £29 for the second vaccine. A £30 consultation fee is added on the first visit, and we’ll confirm the total for your puppy when you book.
When should my puppy or kitten be vaccinated?
Puppies and kittens usually have their first vaccine at around 8 to 9 weeks old and a second a few weeks later. We’ll confirm the right timing for your pet.
Does my dog need a booster every year?
Yes. Protection against leptospirosis only lasts about a year, so dogs need a booster every year to stay protected. Annual dog boosters are £39 with no consultation fee.
What do the vaccines protect against?
DHPPi and Lepto 4 protects dogs against distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, parainfluenza and leptospirosis. Purevax RCP protects cats against cat flu and feline enteritis, and Purevax FeLV against feline leukaemia virus. Myxo-RHD Plus protects rabbits against myxomatosis and both strains of RHD.
My pet needs a rabies vaccine to travel. What do I need to know?
Your pet must be microchipped before or at the same time as the rabies vaccine, and you must wait 21 days after it before you travel. The vaccine is £39. Travel rules change, so check the latest on GOV.UK before you book.
Does my rabbit need vaccinating?
Yes. Myxomatosis and RHD are often fatal, and even indoor rabbits can catch them. A yearly Myxo-RHD Plus vaccine protects against both and costs £55.
