What to expect
Book and ask questions
Call or WhatsApp us to book. We’ll check your pet’s age and weight and confirm the price.
The night before
We’ll tell you when to stop food for dogs and cats. Don’t starve rabbits: they should keep eating as normal right up to surgery.
Surgery day
The vet examines your pet, gives a general anaesthetic and carries out the operation in our theatre. We’ll let you know how it went and when to collect them.
Going home
We’ll go through the aftercare with you and tell you when to bring your pet back for a check.
Aftercare
- Keep your pet warm and quiet on the first evening. They may be sleepy from the anaesthetic, and a small meal is fine.
- Rabbits need to start eating again soon after surgery. Call us if your rabbit isn’t eating or passing droppings.
- Stop your pet licking or chewing the wound. A cone or a recovery suit can help.
- Check the wound every day. Call us if you see swelling, discharge, bleeding or the wound opening.
- Keep dogs on a lead and cats indoors until we say they can go back to normal.
- Don’t bath your pet until the wound has healed.

Questions
How much does it cost to neuter a dog?
Dog neuters are £210 for dogs under 10kg, up to £340 for dogs over 60kg. Spays are £240 to £375. The full table by weight is on our price list.
How much is it to spay or neuter a cat?
A cat or kitten neuter is £95 and a spay is £150. For a spay, your cat must weigh over 2kg.
When should I have my pet neutered?
Most cats can be neutered from around four months old. For dogs, the right age depends on breed and size, so we’ll talk it through with you. We can also advise on timing for rabbits.
Should my pet stop eating before surgery?
Dogs and cats usually need to stop food before an anaesthetic, and we’ll tell you when. Rabbits are different. Don’t starve them, as they need to keep eating.
Why neuter a rabbit?
Neutering prevents unwanted litters and can make rabbits calmer and easier to keep in pairs. Female rabbits who aren’t spayed have a high risk of womb cancer later in life. A rabbit spay is £180 and a neuter is £120.
